For this year's St. John's Night in Mainz, the Communication Design department at Mainz University of Applied Sciences is presenting an exhibition themed around the festive season for the first time in the LUX Pavilion - right in the city center and very close to the Antiquarian Book Market on Ballplatz.
Selected prints and publications from over 60 years of communication design will be presented under the title archivausstellung - a rare opportunity to see them in public. The works come from the archive of the Communication Design department and show how design teaching, themes and forms of expression have developed since the 1960s.
A walk-through timeline leads through two floors of the LUX Pavilion and makes the history of the discipline spatially tangible.
The exhibition was conceived and implemented by students of communication design, who regularly initiate and realize design-related events under the name "Househalt" (Fabian Bähner, Tim Bauer).
The exhibition is thematically linked to St. John's Night in Mainz, which is celebrated in honor of Johannes Gutenberg - who had a decisive influence on book printing with movable type. With its focus on book design, typography and visual communication, the Communication Design department is deliberately building a bridge between past and present.
Vernissage: Wednesday, 18.06.2025, 18:00 h
Duration: 18.06. to 22.06.2025
Sunday, 22.06.: Coffee, music and open doors from 10:00 to 18:00 - perfect for a combined visit with the Antiquarian Book Market.
