The dance piece "artificial" by TanzOrtNord celebrates its premiere at Tanzforum Lübeck on March 22, 2025. The audience will be taken on a journey in which the performing arts are inspired by the visual arts in a fascinating way. An evening in which paintings are brought to life, stories detach themselves from the canvas and find their embodiment in dance.
"artificial" is inspired by five very different works of art that were created by Lübeck artists or can be found in Lübeck museums. Impressive projections bring the paintings to life, while the performers become a part of them through their movements; and the impulse from image to dancing body is always at the center.
The dance evening "artificial" is the result of the different artistic styles of four choreographers. Shiao Ing Oei, Ulla Benninghoven, Olivia Shoesmith and Tommaso Balbo have worked from different perspectives and approaches, choosing individually appropriate music to develop a versatile and profound movement language. The dance is influenced by the aesthetics of the various works of art and offers a wealth of visual and emotional impressions.
The Dance of Death thus detaches itself from the windows of St. Mary's Church and enters the workshop atmosphere of the Tanzforum Lübeck. With unmistakable form and aesthetics, two figures from the cycle of paintings from 1463 come to life in the here and now.
A painting by Fritz Winter, which is in the collection of the Kunsthalle St. Annen, is a major pioneer of abstraction from the post-war period. Several centuries old is the portrait of a man (Museum Behnhaus Drägerhaus, currently in the St. Annen Museum), which now leads into a contemporary dance solo. And two works of contemporary art come from the two Lübeck artists Evelyn Wisbar and Hildegund Peters, very different in style and message.
The four dance soloists of the TanzOrtNord ensemble are trained in both classical ballet and contemporary stage dance, bringing their many years of international stage experience and their own creativity and expressiveness to the piece. Lukas Bisculm, a Swiss dancer, is new to the ensemble, while audience favorites Kim Tassia Kreipe, Olivia Shoesmith and Tommaso Balbo have already appeared in several TanzOrtNord productions. Expressive and dynamic, they will also enchant the audience in this dance piece.
