ASCHE

In the organizer's words:

by Elfriede Jelinek

DEPOT 2 - 1 hr 30 min - No intermission

What happens when death suddenly takes the person close to your heart? When you lose touch with the world and feel like the last person on the planet because of your loneliness? And what if even the earth itself seems too old, hurt and abandoned by humans? What happens next? Is it even possible to make a new start - for oneself and for the world? Elfriede Jelinek's deeply personal theater text mourns the loss of a loved one. Saying goodbye becomes the starting point for the Nobel Prize winner to reflect on ageing, the climate catastrophe, humanity, gods, creation and the end of the world. In doing so, Jelinek does not forgo her humor and lightness, which provide comfort in moments of weakness.
Czech director Kamila Polívková is known for her sophisticated stage and video concepts. In her first production at Schauspiel Köln, she sets ASCHE in a snowy landscape and gives space to grief, which is often marginalized in our society, in all its facets.

NOTE

Please note that it may be slightly colder in the auditorium than usual due to the snow on the stage.
