Au au au Hi hi hi

Exhibition
In the organizer's words:

"Au au au au Hi hi hi" is a commemorative walking theater in public space. It is based on the biographies of Philipp Auerbach, Anton Hiller and his sculpture "Gehende" (Walkers)

"Au au au au Hi hi hi" deals with Germany's reparation policy after 1945 and takes place in public spaces in Munich. The project is conceived as a walking theater of remembrance in which the audience is involved in a historical-performative staging. The title "Au au au au Hi hi hi", which onomatopoeically stands for an expression of pain and fun, refers to biographies of the war and post-war period. The protagonists are Philipp Auerbach (1906-1952), Anton Hiller (1893-1985) and his sculpture "Gehende" (1943), which is located in the garden of the Städtische Galerie im Lenbachhaus. The so-called reparation in Germany after 1945 is itself seen as an unfinished process, which is made visible here in public space and can be experienced by walking. The walking theater is preceded by an extensive research phase in which a political development of remembrance is developed along the biographies and historical sources. This is translated into language and choreography and performed during the walking theater sessions.

A series of lithographs was printed in the lithography workshop at Künstlerhaus München in summer 2024. The edition brings together set pieces from the research on Philipp Auerbach and Anton Hiller.

The four public dates of the running theater "Au au au au Hi hi hi" are preceded by a three-day workshop with the Berufsfachschule für das Holzbildhauerhandwerk München and the Kreativ.Labor der Stiftung Pfennigparade. The first part of the workshop in the garden of the Städtische Galerie im Lenbachhaus enabled direct questioning of the sculpture "Gehende", a protagonist of the project. Together with the artists and provenance researcher Lisa Kern (Lenbachhaus), the participants questioned classical forms of sculptural representation of bodies. In the second part, Hasan and Aslan Göktepe introduced bronze casting, a technique that is inextricably linked to this representation, at the Kunstgießerei München. The sculptures from the workshop will become part of the running theater.

Samuel Fischer-Glaser, born 1992 in Bremen, and Angela Stiegler, born 1987 in Munich, live and work in Munich.
