The Italian Cultural Institute Cologne is showing the exhibition "The Architectural View - Pompeii" by Hans Georg Esch, which will be on display at the IIC from September 19 to December 13, 2024.
Hans Georg Esch, one of the world's leading architectural photographers, interprets the Roman settlement of Pompeii from the 1st century AD through his architectural gaze and links it to the urban present at the beginning of the 21st century. His photography shows the public the archaeological excavations of Pompeii as part of the metropolis of Naples and views the ancient Roman city through the eyes of a contemporary witness.
Hans Georg Esch also uses the latest photographic technology - drone photography, which makes it possible to capture perspectives that no human eye can reach - to offer fascinating cartographic views that reveal unexpected connections between the urban planning of the Romans and the urban structures of our metropolises today.
The exhibition "The Architectural View - Pompeii" by Hans Georg Esch invites you on a fascinating journey through a Pompeii that is not only history, but also the living present.
