Ausstellung Herbert Döring-Spengler

From June 2025, the Historical Archive with the Rheinisches Bildarchiv will be presenting a comprehensive exhibition of the work of artist Herbert Döring-Spengler.

He celebrated his 80th birthday in October 2024. Since the 1970s, Herbert Döring-Spengler has been exploring the limits of the medium of photography and developing a unique visual language through experimental interventions.

The exhibition focuses on Polaroid photography - a material that Döring-Spengler alienates with physical manipulations such as bending, heating or dissolving the carrier layers. These processes result in fascinating works that leave classical photography behind and develop a completely new, often painterly aesthetic.

In addition to his large-format art prints, the exhibition will also show the "Diazetten" series, which creates new visual narratives by superimposing newspaper images and texts. The exhibition will present key works from his oeuvre, shed light on the technical characteristics of his work and provide a personal insight into his artistic practice with a new video interview.
