Exhibition on the Nazi past and the culture of remembrance in Freimann

The exhibition Silent Past sheds light on the gaps in post-war history - that which happened in Freimann during the Nazi era but was forgotten during reconstruction and rebuilding - whether inadvertently buried or deliberately buried. The central question in the compilation was: "What was not talked about after 1945?"

These aspects and gaps are illuminated using individual examples and fates, embedded in the context of the special circumstances in Freimann. Topics include the positive attitude towards National Socialism in large sections of the population, the discovery of the NSDAP membership register in the Jos. Wirth paper factory, the fate of Georg Dehn, who was persecuted as a Jew, and the fates of forced laborers, displaced persons, refugees and displaced persons.

The 11th graders of the Montessori technical secondary school in Munich creatively explored selected chapters of Freimann's Nazi past and specific archival documents from the Freimann district archive. The resulting works complement the exhibition.

Panel discussion on Wednesday, 28.05.2025 at 7 pm
As part of the exhibition, there will be a panel discussion about the experiences from the project and the fundamental question "How do we want to shape remembrance today?". The participants of the project from the Mohr-Villa Stadtteilarchiv Freimann (Brigitte Fingerle-Trischler, Marion Schwehr) and the Montessori Fachoberschule (Tobias Scheurer, teacher for history and his students) will discuss. Dr. Andreas Heusler, historian, and Dr. Julia Schmitt-Thiel, city councillor, will also contribute to the discussion.
