With works by MARIA DIENER, Leipzig
Is this feminism or can it go away? Art and feminism may have something in common:
Their beauty lies in the eye of the beholder and both are seen as a luxury by large sections of society, yet are a necessity for a world worth living in.
Maria Diener invites us to follow her artistic view of the beauty and necessity of feminism. She plays with the media of coffee painting and cyanotype, with which she depicts both selected highlights and achievements of the feminist movement, as well as exciting portraits of strong women / female role models. The original pictures are motifs for art calendars, among others, which she has been redesigning every year since 2023.
Born in 1985, the artist found herself in a kind of bridging position during the creative process of the pictures: standing gratefully on the shoulders of the older feminist generations and looking curiously at the younger queer feminism.
The opening of the exhibition will be accompanied by music from the newly founded Leipzig choir Chordula.
MARIA DIENER, born in Thuringia; has lived in Leipzig since 2003; her life path has taken her from studying languages and education to extensive travels (India & ...) to self-employment as an artist and masseuse. Her art focuses on themes such as the connection to nature & mysticism and increasingly feminist perspectives on life.
