An event organized by PULSE OF EUROPE Cologne in cooperation with the Hildegard-von-Bingen-Gymnasium in Cologne:

Exactly one month before the new elections to the German Bundestag, Dr. Christoph Driessen's reading of his latest non-fiction book "GRIFF NACH DEN STERNEN" on 23.1. also brings numerous European aspects back into our consciousness, with which German and European politics have long been intertwined.

As organizers of Pulse of Europe Cologne, we have already had the pleasure of experiencing twice before how entertaining - and competent - Christoph Driessen knows how to present his book on the (successful) history of the European Union. In his presentation, significant and surprising events of European understanding since the Second World War are brought back to life, as are their very different protagonists.

The author succeeds in making the complex structure of the EU, which has grown over decades, more tangible, this globally unique mixture of confederation and federal state, currently consisting of 27 partner countries, including Germany as a founding member and the most populous partner.

Accordingly, Germany's election decision on February 23 will once again have an influence on the further development of the European Union - just as, conversely, the newly elected EU Parliament and the newly appointed EU Commission have an influence on our German policy.

Christoph Driessen, a Dutchman born in Germany, will be available for further discussion after his lecture. He has lived and worked in Cologne for a long time, runs the dpa Deutsche Presse-Agentur office there and has published other historical non-fiction books on Belgium and the Netherlands, among others.
