Autorentreffen mit Maryam Madjidi

The book "Eine feine Linie" (Pour que je m'aime encore, Le Nouvel Attila, 2021) by Maryam Madjidi, which was published by Nagel und Kimche in 2024, was recently translated into German by Sophia Mazolff. It is a story that deals with the challenges of integration into a new culture associated with immigration from the perspective of a teenager and with a lot of humor.

Maryam is 13 years old. She experiences her teenage years in anger. Anger at the boredom in the Paris suburb of Drancy, where her Iranian parents have settled with her. Anger at the attacks on her unruly body, which she would gladly trade in. In inner conflicts, she plays through the possibilities of running away. Joining one of the big schools that offer a future and thus taking the "royal road" to education, as her uncle Massoud advises her. The Lycée Fénelon in Paris is the ticket to an Ecole Normale Supérieure. Will the grass really be greener there?

Maryam Madjidi was born in Tehran in 1980. She left Iran at the age of six to live in Paris and later in Drancy. She now teaches French there. Her first novel, "Du springst, ich falle" (Aufbau, 2018 - FR: "Marx et la poupée"), was awarded the Prix Goncourt du premier roman and the Prix OuestFrance Étonnants voyageurs 2017.
