In Algeria, French is widely spoken alongside Arabic and various Berber languages. The writing of the Algerian poet and ethnologist Habib Tengour oscillates between these languages, between traditions, surrealism and myths, and Regina Keil-Sagawe succeeds congenially in translating this style in all its facets into German. With his classic novel "Der Alte vom Berge" (Sujet Verlag) and the graphic poetry "Beau Fraisier", the award-winning author presents highly topical themes: (not only) religious totalitarianism in modern Algeria and the lives of migrant families in Algiers and Paris.
