Ayyuka (Tantana Rec./TR) *live*
Ayyuka has been active since 2001 and was one of the first bands to look back to the Turkish music of the 70s in order to try something new. The band didn't get caught up in the "retromania", but reinterpreted Turkish psychedelic in their own style and thus developed an unmistakable, unique sound.
Inspirations from Dick Dale, John Frusciante and local heroes such as Erkin Koray and Orhan Gencebay make their music more guitar-oriented, but their fascination with film music and improvisation creates unexpected twists in their songs.
Immediately after their eponymous debut in 2007, the band shared the stage with Sonic Youth and Jonathan Richman. Their third studio album "Sömestr", which is entirely dedicated to instrumental music, became a cult album for record collectors. They have collaborated with Orlando Julius and Ilhan Ersahin and have had a variety of guests on almost every album. Their last album "Maslak Halayı" was a creative collaboration with Calibro35 genius Tommaso Colliva.
The worldwide hype of her single from "Yukadans" is now followed by her 2024 EP "Zaman Ziyan", which contains four new instrumental pieces that lead the listener through a kaleidoscope of musical landscapes. An experimental flirtation with genres such as afro-beat, funk, bossanova and arabesque.
