Jazz and Nordic sounds - for his final concert Finn Stamer (violin) brings his quartet "Way North" with Martín Zamorano (p), Roz Macdonald (b) and Tobias Frohnhöfer (dr) to the Jazzhall. The quartet's own compositions meet Nordic melodies and open up spaces for expressive, improvisational moments. The risk and freedom of open forms brings the four musicians to an alert, impulse-oriented playing that ranges from dense textures to razor-sharp lines. Stays in the Nordic countries, moss-covered forests and heavy weather can be found in the compositions, as can a recent, formative journey to the far north of Norway. Finn Stamer has been in close musical contact with Scandinavia since the age of 9 and encounters this side with the expressiveness and improvisation of the jazz tradition. With Martín Zamorano, Roz Macdonald and Tobias Frohnhöfer, he has found a setting and excellent playing partners who create familiar and unexpected sound spaces with great attention and creativity.

The quartet's own compositions meet Nordic traditionals and open up spaces for expressive, improvisational moments. Mysticism, pristine nature and moving impressions from journeys to the far north find their way into the sketches and improvisations in an encounter with the jazz tradition. With "WAY NORTH", Finn Stamer finds a setting of excellent playing partners, curiosity and a willingness to take risks to create a game of great attention, great changeability in the moment.
