Music fills the room when Vespers begins on May 24 at 5 p.m. in the venerable Kreuzkirche in Dresden. The focus of the musical hour will be the music of the internationally acclaimed BachChoir at the Nikolaikirche Leipzig. Under the inspiring direction of Nikolaikantor Markus Kaufmann, the choir will take you into the world of vocal music.

The program of this vespers is a fascinating journey through different epochs and styles. It opens with Johann Sebastian Bach's powerful motet "Praise the Lord, all ye Gentiles" BWV 230, a work of jubilant liveliness and deep expression of faith. The voices of the Bach Choir will shine here in all their brilliance and homogeneity.

In contrast, Randall Thompson's simple yet poignant "Alleluja", a masterpiece of 20th century vocal music, will be heard, touching listeners with its intimate expressiveness. The choir will then dedicate itself to Heinrich Kaminski's expressive setting of Psalm 130 "From the depths I call to you, Lord". This work is characterized by its dramatic intensity and profound exploration of the biblical text. The festive finale is Bach's double-choir motet "Singet dem Herrn ein neues Lied", a work of exuberant joy and virtuoso vocal writing that impressively demonstrates the impressive range of the Bach Choir.
