Krefeld's municipal baths - a place with many faces. Built as an ultra-modern hygiene facility in the 19th century, the baths later became the birthplace of swimming in Krefeld. Until the 1960s, the magnificent building experienced golden times - the water in the men's and women's pools and the two outdoor pools hardly ever stood still.

Top swimmers, water polo teams, schoolchildren and lifeguards learned, practiced and trained here.

But then the future of the pool darkens - until finally the doors close and the pools remain empty. For almost 20 years. Inspired by a small group of Krefeld residents, the rapidly growing freischwimmer e.V. association began countless hours of hard work to make the bathing and outdoor pool area accessible and playable again. Krefeld's municipal swimming pool becomes the talk of the town again - and its future is rewritten. Because a pool is not only good for swimming.

We will take you on a journey through the history of the Neusser Straße municipal swimming pool, tell you curious and interesting facts about its development and show you what we at freischwimmer e.V. have discovered, developed and designed here in recent years.

Afterwards, you can relax at freischwimmer e.V. in the pool's former outdoor pool, now a space for relaxation, enjoyment, culture and work in a green setting.
