Barbatuques celebrates 25 years of artistic excellence with a new show that honors their legacy while looking to the future. Combining body percussion, vocal techniques and collaborative art, Barbatuques has become a worldwide reference in body music, combining tradition and modernity in a way that resonates with audiences of all ages.
Based in São Paulo, Barbatuques is a pioneer in body and vocal music, known for its innovative approach that goes beyond traditional music-making. Over the past 25 years, they have performed in more than 30 countries and have influenced audiences and creatives around the world. Their music can be found in movie soundtracks, advertising campaigns, video games and countless remixes by DJs. Barbatuques' unique sound fuses traditional and contemporary styles, combining rhythms such as baião, samba, maracatu, afoxé and funk with elements of electronic music, beatbox and African traditions. With their art, they explore the phonetic, rhythmic, harmonic and melodic possibilities of body and vocal music and build a bridge between classical, folk and pop music. As pioneers of body music, Barbatuques have inspired countless musicians and educators, making their techniques an indispensable pedagogical tool. In 2022, they published their first songbook, Barbatuques Volume 1, a resource that expands access to body music with transcriptions, chord charts and technique guides.
