Philharmonie.7 - A fabulous hour
Deirdre Angenent | Thomas Oliemans | Philzuid | Duncan Ward: Bartók
Béla Bartók's only opera "Bluebeard's Castle" is a psychological drama of enormous intensity. The two Dutch singers Deirdre Angenent and Thomas Oliemans shine in the demanding vocal roles and fill this operatic thriller with life.
Everything stands and falls with the cast of singers - and they are a stroke of luck in this concert version of Bartók's one-act opera: "Deirdre Angenent shows herself to be the ideal Judith between a youthful, lyrical seductress sound and a dramatic attack that is sure of its heights," said one euphoric critic. "What a talent! Impeccable singing, clear, beautifully projected, loaded with all the emotions," wrote Le Figaro about Thomas Oliemans. The voices are underpinned by the Philzuid, and Duncan Ward, shooting star of the young generation of conductors, holds the strings together in Bartók's masterpiece.
