Pottporus presents: Beat Boutique Wanne

Start of the monthly hip hop live music series with talents from the Ruhr region alongside scene greats in a former empty store with Free admission

Herne Wanne-Eickel. Hip hop fans have never been this close! On Saturday, March 29, 2025, at 6 p.m., the "Beat Boutique Wanne" event series will kick off from the heart of the Ruhr region in a former textile store in the center of Wanne with local and regional up-and-coming artists alongside well-known hip hop stars. Free admission and space for 80 visitors. At the end of the series, there will be a big open air in the city center with Germany-wide festival stars of the hip hop genre, also with Free admission.

The Essen-based rapper Call me G will be among those performing at the start. Call me G raps in German, English and French with her own lyrics, which not only convinced rap icon Kool Savas on "The Voice Rap", but also ensured one hundred percent empowerment at various festivals, where Call me G spits about independence and drops fierce punchlines with nonchalance. The versatile hip hop collective of Dortmund rap legends Krupplyn with artists such as Schmu, KitKaan and Spion&Spion, Robert Rapsport, Eymen and BasT also deliver guaranteed departure and vibes. The young, impressive Justice from Essen is stylish, blunt and tough on the mic. Sini LikkleLuv provides the beats and bass with which the DJ has already brought the Juicy Beats and Sommersounds festivals, the Dortmund Junkyard and the industrial culture at the blast furnace at Phoenix-West to bounce. The "Beat Boutique Wanne" will also feature open mic and freestyle sessions to join in with, as well as other artists and DJs and live showcases by beatmakers.

The hip hop session is the result of over twenty years of work by Pottporus e.V. from Wanne, hip hop cultural activists and Germany-wide pioneers of urban arts with internationally successful dance theater pieces, graffiti and street art exhibitions, festivals, dance battles, etc. Giving a stage to local and talented artists in their diversity and from different hip hop music genres is the mode of the new series of Pottporus in cooperation with the partner Projektbüro Urban Arts. At the same time, hip, well-known artists are joining the mission behind the event: To make hip hop more visible and freely accessible to all - to chill out, express yourself or party.

The location:

Beats and poetry make passion - and in an intimate live club atmosphere. A previously empty store becomes a unique location for rap, singing and urban vibes. The art collective freeters and the writer Top Notch have designed the location, which is also home to the Urban Arts project office, retaining its raw urban charm and switching it into a cosy space of opportunity. You can't get more pot, you can't get more open space. Where textiles used to hang in the window, beatmakers, MCs, singers, sprayers and breakers are now headnodding. Beat Boutique Wanne is a ten-minute walk from Wanne-Eickel station in the pedestrian zone.

The artists:

To kick off Beat Boutique Wanne, Call me G will get hearts and hips bouncing with trap beats and bass, while Dortmund crew Krupplyn with their many MCs and styles and Essen-based microphone artist Justice with a fresh approach aim to make a lasting impression. Also in the pipeline for further dates: The open minded rapper and songwriter Grizzel, insider tip DJIBY - a Cologne rapper with Senegalese roots who combines relaxed old school flava with modern sounds, wordplay, social criticism, humor and storytelling -, raw, unadorned Ruhrpott vibe from 4 Flavaz with El9ix, IndiRekt and other Posse members and many more artists on the mics and at the DJ mixer. To conclude the series and close the Urban Art project office on Saturday, June 28, 2025, there will be particularly big bookings plus beats and BBQ and an open-air stage. The names of the artists are still a secret, but will be announced in the run-up to the open-air; already confirmed are Chefket, MC Rene, Lakmann and a battle section of the young, popular and cultishly revered Future of Battlerap series.

Musikstyles:

Beat Boutique Wanne presents various hip hop genres: from thick boom bap and slick trap to melancholic, jazzy and tender moods and excursions into soul and RnB. In addition to live acts, beatmakers from the Ruhr region will also present their MPC-warm instrumentals in the "Beat Boutique Wanne" and DJs will move the crowd with their dubs, remixes and mixing and selection skills.

Open mic session:

Time to let it all out, flow and be part of a movement! Anyone who wants to can grab the stage in the open mic sessions at the "Beat Boutique Wanne" and show off their skills and lyrics on the mic. Simply let us know on site and the slot will be integrated without any complications. The real V.I.P. can be found on the dancefloor or at the mic!

Live broadcast:

For all those who want to be close but can't make it to the Cypher, the freestyles and live shows in Wanne or can no longer get in: A live stream will be set up on the day of the event via Pottporus' Instagram account.

Free graffiti art:

It's worth being on site! Vibe-wise and twice as much: anyone who was there on all four dates, has a stamp on their stamp card issued at the door on the first date and registers with Pottpous will receive an exclusive, limited, high-quality Beat Boutique Wanne shirt specially designed by a local graffiti artist as a gift.

Free admission - that's how it works:

In addition to fresh talents, the series brings renowned line-ups to the start for which you would have to dig deep into your wallet elsewhere. "Going out shouldn't be a privilege, hip hop has to be for everyone," emphasizes the artistic director of Pottporus, Zekai Fenerci. The proverbial red carpet will indeed be rolled out on site. Pottporus can offer 80 free tickets. Once the 80 tickets are gone and the Beat Boutique tub is full, there will be no more admission. The previously secured admission must be redeemed by 7 pm. OPEN AIR - big stage and stars in the city center at the end:

Beat Boutique Wanne is limited in time - and closes parallel to the closing of the Urban Arts project office. On the final date, Saturday, June 28, 2025, there will be several special live acts on the specially set up open-air stage with beats and barbecue. There will also be other stars that you would not otherwise expect to see in Wanne. The announcement of the names is still under publication seal. We can already officially announce the open air shows by hip hop greats Chefket (Materia, Clueso, Majan, Kalim, "Ne Var Ne Yok"), MC Rene (Alte Schule, MZEE, VIVA Mixery Raw Deluxe) and Lakmann (Creutzfeld & Jakob, Witten Untouchable). There will also be a battle section with the iconic, young event series Future of Battlerap and its diverse, diverse, artistic approach to hip-hop battles with a high entertainment factor.

The organization behind the new series:

Pottporus has been able to prove internationally for decades in numerous battles, full-length dance theater pieces, festivals, concerts, exhibitions, workshops, jams and actions as pioneers from Herne Wanne-Eickel that the Pott and its urban scene is boiling, if not bubbling! With the New Arts Ruhr funding programme, Pottporus is widely recognized as a cornerstone and driving force of local hip hop culture - including the popular Urban Arts Ensemble Ruhr. Pottporus is funded by the city of Herne. The Urban Arts project office is funded by the Ministry of Culture and Science of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia as part of the New Arts Ruhr program.

Ideas and role models:

Inspired by the legendary Lyricist Lounge in New York on the Rawkus record label, which fired up artists, their style and careers in showcases and open mic sessions, such as with Mos Def, Common, Bahamadia, Hi-Tek, Cut Chemist, Shabaam Shadeeq, Talik Kweli and many more, the "Beat Boutique Wanne" pushes exciting scene talent, showcasing legends and insider tips in a specially curated program for hip hop connoisseurs and the newly interested. As the name suggests, the underground can also reach many people, as Fatboy Slim's own boutique has shown on the floor, with vinyl releases and open-air concerts. Zekai Fenerci from Pottporus emphasizes: "It has never been so important socially, socially and artistically to give inspiring artists and open-minded hip hop culture a spotlight."
