'It is an insane project that only those who really have something to say about these pieces can dare to undertake', wrote the SZ after the MKO and its longstanding artistic partner Alexander Lonquich performed all five of Beethoven's piano concertos one after the other in the Prinzregententheater in 2019. To have a complete overview of such an important body of works in one long evening is one of the most beautiful and satisfying musical experiences of all. The complete freedom of playing from the moment and the unusual transparency and immediacy of the interpretation caused storms of applause in the hall at the time. Following the successful CD recording of the concertos on ECM Records, BR-Klassik praised the recording for its exceptional quality: 'Alexander Lonquich plays with touching intimacy. His pianissimo is breathtaking, his melodies are emphatic and at the same time wonderfully natural in their phrasing. As a conductor too, he masters the long symphonic passages excellently, sometimes jumping up from his piano stool. The Munich Chamber Orchestra acts as a lively and transparent, wide-awake partner.
