Benjamin Lackner Quintett - Neues Programm

For a long time, Berlin-based German-American pianist Benjamin Lackner worked primarily in a trio and developed a sound that draws on European classical music, jazz and pop influences. Flowing rhythms and strong melodies are the defining components of Lackner's music. His compositions have an essentially lyrical quality that gives his musical colleagues many opportunities to lend the music their own character. Having just made his debut with a new quartet on the legendary ECM label, he now surprises us with his new program and a quintet in a class of its own.

All five have long lists of top colleagues with whom they have already played. Here are just a few: Massive Attack and Elvis Costello (Benjamin Lackner), Chick Corea and Manu Katché (Matthias Eick), Edward Simon, Kurt Rosenwinkel (Mark Turner), Pat Metheny and Joe Lovano (Lina May Han Oh), Sheila Jordan and Youn Sun Nah (Matthieu Chazarenc). Like Lackner, they are always in demand as performers at international jazz festivals. In addition to his current quartet and quintet, Lackner also plays solo and in his long-standing trio.
