Our Fellowship artist Bernhard Schimpelsberger has mastered the art of intuitively engaging with new musical languages. His insatiable curiosity for the percussion instruments of the world unfolds in the world premiere of a major percussion concerto with the Beethoven Orchestra Bonn: jazz musician Barak Schmool wrote a musical world tour through Indonesia, India, Tanzania and Brazil for him. Schimpelsberger is known above all for his virtuosity on the Indian tabla, which he transfers to the drumset in a unique way. The well-traveled musician roams all continents to discover new instruments, sounds and techniques - and prefers to combine them into a fusion.

In the second half of the concert, Dirk Kaftan conducts Hector Berlioz's "Symphonie fantastique", a wild journey through the life of an artist. Here, too, rhythm dominates the action - from the dance hall of the second movement to the march to the execution and the diabolical witches' Sabbath.
