Bertolt Meyer – Techno(logie), Körper und Inklusivität

In the organizer's words:

QUEER MUSIC FESTIVAL

The 'Queer Music Festival' (April 24 to 27, 2025) explicitly shines the spotlight on queer music and artists who identify as gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender or non-binary. Under the motto "Identity is reality!", the 4-day program ranges from concerts and club nights, dance classes and films to readings, artist talks and DJ workshops. The focus is always on celebrating and empowering queer identities, queer bodies and, above all, queer music. As the organizer, heart and engine of the festival, Zacker wants to offer musicians from the LGBTIQ* community a platform and create a safe space in which they can raise their voices to share their artistic vision with like-minded people and allies. It's about speaking up together - at a time when silence is becoming increasingly dangerous. It's about visibility - at a time when queer people increasingly have to fear for their safety in public spaces.

Bertolt Meyer - Techno(logy), body and inclusivity

Performance & artist talk as part of the Queer Music Festival

Bertolt Meyer is a DJ, musician, label owner and creates techno in a fascinating and unusual way. Because he doesn't (just) operate his modular system in a 'conventional' way - he is actually part of it: Meyer was born without a left forearm. With his 'SynLimb' - a DIY hardware hack that he built together with Christian Zollner from KOMA Elektronik and his husband Daniel Theiler - Meyer can connect his bionic prosthesis to synthesizers and control the parameters of his modular system with his thoughts. Sounds like sci-fi and visions of the future, but it is real and present. On this evening at ZiMMT, Bertolt Meyer will perform live and let his audience get close to his devices and set-up - and talk about his artistic work. In conversation with Leipzig-based music journalist Nastassja von der Weiden, he will also address the question of whether and how techno(logy) can create inclusivity and break down stigmas. And, of course, how he hacked his prosthesis.
