Bertram Engel is regarded as the best drummer in Germany. He has played in the bands of Udo Lindenberg and Peter Maffay for decades and wrote many a song for them. His autobiography was published in September 2024, a piece of first-hand music history, a disarming look behind the scenes.

The book immediately made it onto the Spiegel bestseller list. The title "Mit alten Männern spiel' ich nicht!" (I don't play with old men!) stems from a tantrum thrown by Bertram Engel about the Maffay band, which he felt played too sluggishly. After completing his major tour of the same name, which was enthusiastically celebrated by audiences in all major German cities, Bertram Engel now presents excerpts from his program as a reading performance.

He tells "stories from 1001 tours - and even more from 50 years of rock 'n' roll", as he promises. But even a reading can't be done without music. But drums and drumsticks stay at home this time. Bertram Engel picks up the keys during the reading and turns out to be an excellent pianist and charismatic singer.
