Come to your senses! - is the title of the book that Gerhart Baum was working on until shortly before his death. He often warned of the decline of liberal democracies. "This is no longer just a turning point, but a new epoch," he said time and again. Baum, who once described himself as a "freelance liberal", was not concerned with the freedom and dignity of the privileged, but instead focused on preserving the achievements enshrined in the Basic Law and the Declaration of Human Rights, as well as on social democracy. Therese Hämer reads from the book. Martin Stankowski, who was a friend of Gerhart Baum in recent years, talks to Angelika Nußberger, Director of the Academy for European Human Rights Protection at the University of Cologne and Vice-President of the European Court of Human Rights until 2020.
