Participatory performance
As part of Common Struggles
Natasha Borenko & Co
We die alone. We bury together. A participatory performance that explores the political and theatrical nature of the funeral ritual and deconstructs its fixed mechanism. A ritual that is impossible to fully prepare for, but during this rehearsal every last wish can be fulfilled.
The audience is invited to participate in the scripted funeral ceremony, to engage their shared memory of the ritual and to bring in their differences between cultures and societies. At their disposal to rehearse, deconstruct and discuss is the contradictory Russian body, whose last wish is to do no more harm and become peaceful compost.
Natasha Borenko - a Siberian-born fluid theater maker and queer-feminist artist with a migrant background, who sees participatory art as a tool for deconstructing the system and practicing change. She is developing this piece in collaboration with intercultural, interdisciplinary artists.
