Bill Laurance Trio (ACT/ Flint Music/UK) *live*
The pianist and composer Bill Laurance combines a wide variety of musical styles. He studied classical composition at the University of Leeds and, in addition to classical music, also studied jazz, funk and drum'n'bass. Since then, he has developed a personal style that combines English classical music, electronica and jazz-rock elements with raw contemporary grooves. As a founding member of the jazz fusion group Snarky Puppy, Bill Laurance has shown how creativity and improvisation can lead to something completely new and how having fun can easily win a handful of Grammys. Now, with his trio project, he brings complex rhythms, virtuoso piano passages and dense interactions to the stage.
From his solo piano recording Affinity (2022) to his extensive collaboration with the WDR BigBand Live at the Philharmonie Cologne (2019) and his critically acclaimed symphonic album Bloom, recorded with The Untold Orchestra (2024), there are few creative avenues Bill Laurance has yet to explore. Laurance has recorded and performed with artists including David Crosby, Morcheeba, Salif Keita, Bobby McFerrin and Susana Baca and collaborated with dance companies including Alvin Ailey, Ballet Rambert, Northern Ballet Theatre and English National Ballet.
