Blaykyi Kenyah: PROPOSITIONS | KABUFF-Präsentation

In the organizer's words:

//DE

Presentation | Tue 25.03.25 | 18:30

Meeting point: KABUFF in the sculpture hall

Presentation of works created during the KABUFF residency.

During his time at Kabuff, Blaykyi Kenyah created a series of "expanded" drawings in which graphite is supplemented with earth to form the final image. These drawings, depicting symbols from his native Southern Ghana, are intended as experiments to question the power of images in relation to the construction of values within the 'nation'. He also uses the same material, earth, for a sculptural installation that incorporates absurdity and childlike play (which are often not far apart) to highlight political issues of transience, infertility and intergenerationality.

Before his arrival at KABUFF, Blaykyi had already made his first experiments with video and audio media. He continued these experiments here.

Blaykyi Kenyah was born in Sunyani, Ghana and currently lives in Frankfurt am Main, where he is completing his studies in Fine Arts under Prof. Hassan Khan. His current interest is in how the isolation of simple gestures and impulses and the turning of attention that art enables reveals not only its potential, but also its inner capacity to manifest ideology and value constructs - often with the contradictions that this entails.

Presentation of the works made, during the KABUFF-residency.

During his time at Kabuff, Blaykyi Kenyah worked on a series of 'expanded' drawings, where graphite is complemented with earth in achieving the final image. These drawings, of symbols from his native southern Ghana, aim to be experiments in considering the power of imagery in value constructions within 'the nation'. He also uses the same material, earth, for a sculptural installation utilizing absurdism and childlike play (which are never really far apart) to consider political questions related to ephemerality, barrenness, and intergenerationality.

Before arriving at Kabuff, Blaykyi had begun forays into video and audio media. He continued those tests here, which he will share at the end of his residency.

Blaykyi Kenyah is an artist born in Sunyani, Ghana, and currently living in Frankfurt am Main, where he is completing his studies in fine arts under Prof. Hassan Khan. He is currently interested in how isolating simple gestures and impulses and granting them the attention art makes possible reveals not only their potency, but also their innate capacity to manifest ideology and value construction, often with its attendant inherent contradictions.
