The blockade of Leningrad, now Saint Petersburg, which lasted from September 8, 1941 to January 27, 1944, is one of the greatest crimes against humanity of the Second World War and claimed over a million civilian victims. During these 872 days, people were cut off from all supply routes and left to starve. Survivors of this catastrophe, who now live in Düsseldorf and the surrounding area, talk about their experiences as children in the besieged city 80 years later.
