1932: Twin brothers Elijah and Elias Smoke (both played by Michael B. Jordan) want to start afresh on familiar ground. So they leave their previous life in Chicago's underworld behind and return to their old hometown of Clarksdale, Mississippi, with the plan to open a music bar for the black community. But it seems that anything but a quiet life awaits the twins: Not only the Ku Klux Klan, but also vampires have made themselves at home in the town. So who can the brothers trust? And what are Mary (Hailee Steinfeld) and Remmick (Jack O'Connell) up to?
For those without sharp teeth, the situation is becoming increasingly precarious. So something has to be done to get rid of the bloodsuckers. Fortunately, the Smoke brothers have learned a thing or two from their experiences as soldiers in the First World War and take up the fight against the undead horde.
A musically ecstatic horror film filled to bursting with subtexts, cultural traumas and the rhythms that go with them.
