1976: Civil war-like conditions prevail in Jamaica. To promote peace and understanding among his countrymen, Bob Marley (played by Kingsley Ben-Adir) plans a big free concert in the capital Kingston. Shortly before the date, however, armed men break into the house where the reggae star lives with his wife Rita (played by Lashana Lynch), their children and a few friends and accompanying musicians. Without hesitation, the attackers open fire. There are several serious injuries, but fortunately no fatalities. In order to get his family and his band to safety, Marley agrees to move with them to London temporarily. There he records "Exodus", his most important album both musically and in terms of his message, with which he finally rises to global superstardom. However, the continuing unstable situation in his home country and an illness that first appears subtly but soon becomes more and more obvious do not allow him to rest...
