BODEK JANKE is one of the most sought-after drummers and percussionists in the world.
Countless recordings and projects, especially in the cross-cultural and experimental jazz and world music field, including with the big bands of WDR, NDR, Ensemble Moderne, the Silk Road Ensemble with Yo-Yo Ma and his own bands, confirm Janke's versatility and stylistic freedom.
The Polish-born artist studied jazz percussion, composition, arranging and also tabla and Indian music in Cologne and New York. He has also been in demand internationally as a teacher for some time and has taught at the Manhattan School of
Music (NYC), the Folkwang University in Essen, as well as at the music academies in Cologne, Osnabrück, Hamburg and Mannheim as a guest professor in the subjects of drums, percussion and rhythm.
With his SOLO project, Bodek Janke is now finally bringing to light music that is exclusively tailored to him personally and makes no compromises. His compositions get under your skin, but they also fire up the desire to move. Both inwardly and with the physical body.
From decades of experience, he knows like no other how to use rhythm as a vehicle to liberate, to inspire, to trigger emotions, to dance.
In this extraordinary performance, the energetic musician will demonstrate his compositional artistry as well as his inimitable virtuosity, playing technique and captivating musicality and dynamics, so that the listener will understand once again after this concert why he is so popular.
After this concert, the listener will once again understand why drums are not just an accompanying instrument in the 21st century, but an element in modern music on a par with any soloist. Global, modern beats, profound melodies, moving harmonies and lively,
rich sounds will take the listener on a journey that is second to none. The majority of this project was created during the lockdown months, 2020 and 2021, at home on the piano and computer in Berlin - when Janke also became a father at the same time,
and began to bring this process of finding himself in the form of compositions to life. The music took several years to mature, was intensively edited, corrected and polished until it was finally ready for Janke to present himself with his "alter ego", his solo performance.
