Bodyland is an appeal to our humanity - that which unites us at our core. It is a statement: diversity does not contradict peace, but rather forms its basis.
In her dance solo , Irene Carreño processes migration and cultural hybridity in contemporary movement language. Her body is an archive of diverse influences: Based on traditional dances from the Colombian Andean, Pacific and Caribbean regions, Carreño's body bears witness to change, resistance and belonging. Her post-modern dance becomes a poetic reflection on social and cultural identity.
Bodyland is a political sign: If a single body can unite all the complexity and beauty of different influences and lead to a wonderfully new melange, then a sustainable peaceful coexistence of different cultures is not only possible, but without alternative.
