"Brotherland has burned down": with the fall of the Berlin Wall and German reunification, the GDR state contracts of the Vietnamese contract workers lost their validity. Deprived of their rights, these people found themselves in a highly insecure social situation and were also exposed to increasing racist violence in society. The documentary was shot in East Berlin in 1991 in this unstable situation. Episodically, in hostels, apartments, social meeting places and at Schönefeld Airport, very differently socialized and arrived Vietnamese are interviewed or perceived. People who have a socialist past behind them and an uncertain future in the new Germany. (Nguyen, DE 1991 - 28min)
"Think of something beautiful": The protagonist's restlessness leads her to poetry, photography and mixed martial arts. In contrast, her mother goes about her routines in her own grocery store or in the kitchen. As they realize how alien they feel in each other's world, they both find ways to return to each other. (Vo & Ißler, DE 2023 - OmeU - 17min)
