In the organizer's words:

The travel anthology "BOCTOK - Travels through the former Soviet empire" contains twenty adventurous reports.

After the collapse of the USSR, previously unimagined travel opportunities opened up in the successor states. In continuation of the reports on illegal travel to the Soviet Union during the GDR era, this anthology aims to provide impressions of how individual travel was possible in various forms in the new conglomerate of countries after the fall of communism. We follow adventurers, sportsmen, scientists, journalists and artists on sometimes extraordinary journeys across the post-Soviet continent - the Vostok region.

Traces of predecessors from earlier eras are deliberately included. There is also a legacy to be traced in the recourse to German and Western European reports from the history of the discovery of the Russian Empire.

The authors report on adventures in the Baltic States, in wintry north-eastern Europe, on mountain tours in the Urals, the Caucasus and the mountains of Central Asia, or on expeditions to the peripheral regions of Siberia and the Far East, all the way to the remote islands in the Pacific.

The anthology's editor Joachim Behm, author Conny Klauß and author Gunther Knauthe present their chapters from the book project.
