BULLSHIT – Warum er überall ist und was wir dagegen tun können

In the organizer's words:

Lecture and discussion with PD Dr. Nikil Mukerji
"One of the most striking features of our culture is the fact that there is so much bullshit. Everyone knows bullshit. Everyone contributes to it," writes Harry Frankfurt in his book "Bullshit" (2005/2014). But what exactly is bullshit? How does it differ from similar phenomena such as thoughtlessness, self-delusion, nonsense, etc.? Why is it produced, what problems does it cause, and how can we expose and avoid it? In his lecture, the philosopher of science and science communicator Nikil Mukerji sheds light on the cultural phenomenon of bullshit - theoretically sound and based on his own, often painful experiences. He shows why bullshit is not only an individual problem, but also a social one - and why the GWUP (Gesellschaft zur wissenschaftlichen Untersuchung von Parawissenschaften) as an organization has a special interest in this topic. The lecture shows how critical thinking can help to arm oneself against bullshit.

PD Dr. Nikil Mukerji is an author, philosopher and skeptic. He teaches as a private lecturer at the Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich.
In 2014, he completed his doctorate in philosophy under Julian Nida-Rümelin at LMU with a thesis on consequentialism. In addition to his university teaching and research activities, Mukerji is a non-fiction and guest author for various media (including FAZ, NZZ, Gehirn&Geist, Spektrum.de and Die Zeit Online). He has been a member of the scientific advisory board of the Hans-Albert-Institut since 2020. He is also head of the GWUP 's Center for Science and Critical Thinking and a member of the Information Network Homeopathy (INH).
