In the organizer's words:

Wars, attacks on critical infrastructure and free societies: In crisis situations such as the one we are currently experiencing, intelligence services are booming with their promise of reliable and secure information. What challenges does democracy face and what role do intelligence services play in providing information for political decision-makers?

The debate will focus on the current challenges and the role of intelligence services in a changing security policy situation. With reference to the recently published anthology "Geheimdienste, Politik und Krisen im Kalten Krieg" (Intelligence Services, Politics and Crises in the Cold War), the discussion will span from the confrontations and strategies of the Cold War era to the present day.

• Dr. Konstantin von Notz (Member of the German Bundestag, Chairman of the Parliamentary Control Committee),
• Dr. Gerhard Conrad (former BND employee and expert on international security) and
• Prof. Dr. Daniela Münkel (historian, Federal Archives - Stasi Records Archive).
