The Italian Cultural Institute Cologne is organizing a meeting with Carlo Piano in collaboration with the Italian Center of the University of Bonn on the occasion of the presentation of Atlantide. Viaggio alla ricerca della bellezza, a book he wrote together with his father Renzo Piano.
The meeting in Italian with simultaneous translation will be moderated by Cristina Giordano and will take place on Wednesday, May 7, 2025 at 7 pm in the theater hall of the Italian Cultural Institute in Cologne.
The long sea voyage of Renzo Piano and his son Carlo begins on a summer's day in the port of Genoa, just a stone's throw from the Punta Nave studio. They are guided by a mythical, ancient desire: they want to find Atlantis. Atlantis is the perfect city because it houses a perfect society. Perfection is the dream of every architect. To find it, Piano returns to the places where he has spent his whole life striving for perfection and building his own works in the world. He sails with his son in the middle of the Pacific, to the banks of the Thames, to Athens, to San Francisco. He reaches the island in Osaka Bay, where the airport he designed is located. In his search for beauty, he finds the imperfection that every project brings with it. Every architectural work preserves the signs of time. It preserves memories and traditions, blends into the landscape and changes with its surroundings. Therefore, designing means first and foremost taking care of the territory and its inhabitants.
