In the days of the Iron Curtain, Herbert von Karajan and the Berliner Philharmoniker's guest appearance at the first Dresden Music Festival in 1978 was nothing short of legendary, and this was followed by others after the fall of the Berlin Wall - with their respective subsequent directors at the helm. Since the 2019/20 season, Kirill Petrenko has been Chief Conductor and Artistic Director of this outstanding orchestra, which is widely regarded by audiences and experts alike as the best in the world. The Dresden Music Festival is therefore all the more delighted that the orchestra will now be performing in Dresden in this conductor-orchestra constellation, which has now been in place for five years and is considered by many to be almost ideal. Albrecht Mayer, principal oboist with the Berliners since 1992, is one of the stars of his instrument, whose sound is praised worldwide as the "spark of the gods". The program will not be announced until the opening of the Dresden Music Festival 2025 - but you can be sure that the Berliners will bring an exciting mix of contemporary and traditional repertoire and that you are in for an evening in a class of its own at the Kulturpalast.
