The beautiful, difficult topic. What actually makes French wine so complicated? And why are there so many bitter disappointments on the one hand and so many great wines on the other? The common French winemaker always explains both top performances and failures with the famous terroir, the special origin of the respective wine. What does this actually mean and how important is it really? We want to understand all this, learn to read the labels and taste good wine: from Champagne, Sancerre, Burgundy and Bordeaux to Corbières. Plus one or two surprises.

Sascha Rimkus

Born on the North Sea coast of Schleswig-Holstein, little Sascha didn't exactly grow up with wine. His particular passion for the subject only came about when he crossed the Elbe to the south and made his first trips to wine regions. Seeing how wine is made and then drinking it locally in dimly lit wine taverns was an awakening! The subject has stayed with him to this day. He has worked his way through countless wine lists and shelves around the world and spent many years in restaurants and bars. Today, he is one of the operators of Goldhahn and Sampson, where he continues to build a steadily growing wine department.
