Chambre: Dürrenmatt & Räume mit Aussicht im HKM Berlin

In the organizer's words:

This summer, Haus Kunst Mitte Berlin is presenting two exhibitions on two floors: "Chambre: Dürrenmatt" - an exchange project with the Favre class at the Berlin University of the Arts, and "Rooms with a View" on the second floor, featuring the 2023 scholarship holders from Villa Aurora in Los Angeles.

The exhibitions at Haus Kunst Mitte are open until August 2.

CHAMBRE: DÜRRENMATT

Haus Kunst Mitte is showing reproductions of Dürrenmatt's remarkable drawings and selected works by the students of 2023 and 2024: designs for a cosmological rotating and moving machine, an audio essay on the subject of prostitution in Dürrenmatt and elsewhere, sketches on the subject of scale or Dürrenmatt's ghostly serenity, prints as an examination of Dürrenmatt's graphic style.

ROOMS WITH A VIEW

The eight artists each lived in Los Angeles for three months in 2023 and developed new artistic ideas and questions on site.

In the exhibition, they enter into a dialog through their works and present their different perspectives on California - from everyday life on the West Coast to the multi-lane highway architecture, from the view of the Pacific Ocean to the consequences of climate change on the Salton Sea. Together, the diverse impressions of the scholarship holders form a prism, an artistic cartography of the multifaceted city of Los Angeles and its surroundings.
