"You know, I'm in a situation that's so damn precarious that I can't tell it. I'm a woman with a past."
Students Jakob and Charley are deeply in love. But for the long-awaited meeting with their beloved, Anne and Kathrin, they need the support of Charley's rich aunt from Brazil. Unfortunately, Donna Lucia's arrival is delayed and so gardener Bruns has to take on this role without further ado. He quickly takes a liking to his portrayal of an elderly lady and when Captain Franke, Jacob's father, fawns over him, the chaos is perfect. An almost ludicrous chain of mix-ups, excuses and further white lies begins - until Charley's real aunt appears and the whole scam threatens to unravel.
The farce by British author Brandon Thomas from 1892 has long since become a classic comedy of mistaken identity. In addition to film adaptations with stars such as Heinz Rühmann and Peter Alexander, the popular play has been translated into over 25 languages, adapted into an operetta, staged as a musical and continues to captivate audiences with its unbeatably fast-paced situation comedy.
