Ernest Chausson: Concerto for violin, piano and string quartet
Members of the Busch Trio and the Marmen Quartet: Two friendly ensembles join forces. Ernest Chausson's original composition places unusual demands on the instrumentation: the opulent double concerto for violin and piano with string quartet accompaniment is rarely heard on the podium. The highly virtuosic violin part was played by the violinist of the century Eugène Ysaÿe at the premiere in 1892. Today, the Dutch violinist Matthieu van Bellen, who has received many awards for his expressive playing, shines in it. Omri Epstein unfolds a symphonic tapestry of sound full of Wagnerian pathos at the piano. Before this absolute "ultra" work, the London Marmen Quartet will perform Claude Debussy's string quartet, which was written at almost the same time and whose musical language points in a completely different, impressionistic direction.
