This is the story of two women. Sally, a minor who has run away, and Liss, a woman in her mid-fifties who runs a farm on her own, meet by chance on a country road. They live and work together on the farm for a day and then a few more. While baking bread and harvesting potatoes, the initially rather taciturn women become closer.
When the two of them enter the pear orchard behind the house one September day, Sally thinks she is in paradise: Here, the trees have been growing as they want for a long time, no one is forcing them to grow straight, she exclaims enthusiastically to Liss: "The fact that you just let everything grow has made this a magic garden." For Liss, however, the garden has a completely different meaning. As she stands among the branches with the ripe fruit, she begins to tell Sally what it's all about ... More and more buried memories come to light. Soon the quiet days are over and events come thick and fast.
"Alte Sorten" is a moving women's play that uses strong, raw tones and gentle silence to show the touching rapprochement and development of two lonely but also freedom-loving women. A few elements such as earth, bread, potatoes, water and pears create an intensely sensual atmosphere. Exciting, almost thriller-like elements alternate with quiet and light moments, giving the piece both depth and a certain lightness.
