When does it begin, when does it end? What does silence mean, what does darkness mean? Where is my place? And how much closeness do I dare to seek? The production CHORA turns dancers and audience into a community. Together they move through a setting without stage boundaries. And thus sharpen their perception of each other.

The Bonn-based company CocoonDance, founded in 2000 by choreographer Rafaële Giovanola and dramaturge Rainald Endraß, not only enjoys continuous national and international success, but also manages the feat of remaining curious and constantly creating new relationships between body and space, artists and audience. And in this way to conjure up an event of sensations. In CHORA, CocoonDance, known for its works that deconstruct the body, concentrates on the idea of space like never before. Choreography is understood as a cultural technique that rearranges and connects bodies and things, drives change and opens up resonance spaces. The perception of space created by CHORA presents itself as a constantly opening and closing space that enables us to grasp our relationship to the world around us in its increasing interdependence and entanglement. CHORA quotes the ancient Greek term khôra, which denotes a place, a space and was of particular interest to various thinkers from Plato to Deleuze with regard to a third being, the blending of the intelligible and sensual world and the place of constant transformation.

!! Before each performance, the audience is invited to a 20-minute practical introduction. This will take place on stage and will be led by Rafaële Giovanola. No previous knowledge or special clothing is required for the introduction. The meeting point is at 19:15 in the foyer.
