Chortag: Heimatmelodie // Can Arkdaş

In the organizer's words:

The Heimatmelodie choir was founded in 2008 in Hanover-Mittelfeld and sings under the direction of the trained musician Olga Welz. Our mixed choir enjoys rehearsing local, church and Cossack songs, pop songs and classical works - in German, Russian and other languages. We are a member of the Lower Saxony Choir Association.

Our motto: "We sing because we like it." In addition to performances, we enjoy being together - whether with other choirs or at a cozy get-together after rehearsals.

The choir group, Can Arkadaş, consists of around 30 women with a migrant background. These women are from the first and second generation who emigrated to Germany 60 years ago and have worked hard all their lives. Most of them live alone and have health problems caused by language and cultural differences. We have been asked several times for opportunities to express themselves musically. Oriental or Anatolian music in particular has a special effect on the participants. Singing together as well as meditative listening and moving to the music help to awaken and develop people's self-healing powers.
