Chovu lives the Kenyan culture. They combine traditional rhythms, ancient legends and spirituality with wild black metal. African voodoo, witchcraft and mysticism meet blast beats, brute riffs and gurgling vocals.
But Chovu is also more than just music: the band raises its voice against the often unbearable political and social conditions in its home country. Against dogmatic religiosity, against neo-colonialism, against extreme inequality - Chovu is a sword in the fight against these grievances.

A strange buzz emanates from the hollow tree...
The visual aesthetics of the Basel band Vígljós are inspired by Pieter Bruegel the Elder's painting The Beekeepers (16th century) (on display in the Berlin Kupferstichkabinet). In doing so, they set an unusual accent in a genre whose references to nature are otherwise characterized by dark forests, ravens and wolves.
While many black metal bands turn their attention thematically to the satanic, Vígljós focus on the life of bees and the craft of beekeeping. What may seem unusual at first glance unfolds an astonishing depth on closer inspection - because the analogies of life and death, of society and loneliness fit seamlessly into the dark atmosphere of the genre.
