Christian Muthspiel & ORJAZZTRA VIENNA

It is a continuation of the Vienna Art Orchestra, and yet something of its own; it is a playground for the composer Christian Muthspiel, who has worked as a trombonist in a number of bands; it is a field of experimentation for young musicians from the Viennese scene and a tribute to Carla Bley: with the Orjazztra Vienna, Muthspiel becomes an "architect". With his large ensemble, he can work in detail on what is important to him: "really playing dynamically, really working on the timbres, really working on the phrasing", as he revealed to BR. He can use complex pieces, odd time signatures, up to 18 individual voices. All of this flows into the new project: Ernst Jandl, who liked to perform his spoken word performances with jazz musicians and worked with Muthspiel, would be 100 this year. With the composition "vom Jandln zum Ernst", the voice of the poet is brought to life, faded into the composition and merged with the big band - an oratorio for the poet's voice and 17 soloists. In short: an event!
