After the success of her first album "Chansons de Cologne", bandleader Christine Corvisier could not let go of the repertoire that shaped her childhood.
She has now enriched these melodies, which feel like home, with influences from her musical career in France, Germany and America and recorded them in March 2025 - with the addition of a guest star:
The famous trombonist Marshall Gilkes complements the band's sound on several tracks.
The band's second album will be released by the renowned label "Neuklang", which heard Christine Corvisier live at the concerts in Bauer Studios and decided to work with her.
The saxophonist did not leave it at that and decided to record additional arranged orchestral parts for some pieces, as she also plays and sings clarinet, flute and bass clarinet, baritone, alto and soprano saxophone.
In this second album, she does not limit herself to Charles Aznavour and Edith Piaf, which have already become her specialty, but also tackles the repertoire of Gilbert Becaud and Charles Trenet, which she takes in surprising and refreshing musical directions.
Rounded off with new and exciting compositions of her own, Christine Corvisier creates a well-rounded whole with an unmistakable personal touch.
What exactly is the "Chansons de Cologne" concept? Christine Corvisier decided to reinvent the French songs of her childhood
in a jazz register, with a modern aesthetic of modern mainstream jazz that is representative of the jazz city of Cologne.
"This repertoire of French chansons was lying dormant inside me and combined with the many beautiful memories of my childhood. I just wanted to bring them out, revive them and mix them with my adult life as a jazz musician and expatriate in Cologne.
It was an intense and emotional experience for me, which I was happy to share with the wonderful musicians in this band who made it possible," explains Christine Corvisier.
The Christine Corvisier Quintet's aesthetic and concept is based on a natural acoustic sound with plenty of room for improvisation and an emphasis on the solo qualities of all band members. With each solo, creativity is maintained through the interaction between the musicians, which often takes them in unexpected directions or atmospheres at concerts and always meets with a very positive response from the audience.
