The transatlantic self-image has been shattered, things that were taken for granted are no longer valid. Europe must respond to the new reality with a joint response. Europe struggled after the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Will Europe act more decisively and forcefully this time in response to the wake-up call from Washington? Former ambassador Christoph Heusgen analyzes the new reality of transatlantic relations and the options open to European states.

Dr. Christoph Heusgen teaches political science at the University of St.Gallen. He advised Chancellor Merkel on foreign and security policy issues, was German Ambassador to the UN and chaired the Munich Security Conference.
