WORKSHOP: AFRO-COLOMBIAN DANCE & MUSIC - RHYTHM, BODY & HISTORY

Interactive dance and music workshop with live music led by @laManigua & @PioMolina. This workshop offers a vibrant and holistic experience where rhythm, body, and history come together. At its core lies the music and dance culture of the Colombian Caribbean - especially Cumbia, Bullerengue, Gaita, and Tambora. Participants will explore these traditional forms through dance, singing, bodywork, and live music. The workshop reveals how rhythm, sound, and movement not only accompany the performance but actively shape the interpretation of both dance and voice.

Workshop Content:

Rhythmic Bodywork: Through guided movement exercises, the body becomes a resonant instrument. In Colombian traditions - particularly in Cumbia rhythm is the foundational element that unites dance, song, and movement.

Singing & Dancing as One: Authentic expression emerges through a deep rhythmic understanding, not just melodic accuracy. We work with vocal and body percussion, essential and inseparable parts of traditional music.

Musical Mestizaje (Cultural Mixing): We reflect on the historical and cultural complexity of these musical styles - rooted in Afro-Indigenous traditions, shaped by colonial histories, and enriched by the creative resistance of communities.

Collective Experience: Dancing in a circle, singing together, and connecting through rhythm - the workshop fosters a strong sense of community and lets us feel the transformative power of shared movement.

Open to all - no prior experience needed!
